Job Description:

Monitor Parking Facilities

Possess and/or acquire working knowledge of State of Florida traffic and parking laws and University of Florida parking rules and regulations; apply knowledge appropriately to ensure motor vehicles and other means of transportation are parked or operating in compliance with University of Florida rules, regulations, and guidelines.  

Foot Patrol area(s) as assigned (streets, parking facilities/lots, and traffic entrances); issue citations as warranted for parking and decal violations.  

Restrict access to areas (i.e., University of Florida restricted by decal lots; special permits, special purposes); notify police department of any vehicle illegally entering the area. 

Greet visitors and issue appropriate visitor’s parking permits.  

Assist public with information and directions in person and via telephone; provide motorist assistance; assist in traffic control, providing information and directions to UF students, visitors, faculty, and staff. 

Identify and report safety hazards, acts of vandalism, suspicious persons/activities and any other actual or potentially problematic condition (i.e. malfunction of parking facility mechanical equipment, elevators, sound systems, lights, telephones, parking meters, etc.).  

Request cleaning of facilities as needed and in some cases perform cleaning tasks. 

Prepare and submit written reports of incidents as required 

Conduct traffic and parking lot utilization surveys and submit written reports as directed. 

Special Events Assistance

Reserve lots and parking facilities for special campus events via permit or lot closure.  

Perform parking attendant duties for scheduled events as assigned. All University of Florida home football games qualify as a special event and are required duty. 

Provide traffic control duties for University sponsored events as directed and in support of Transportation & Parking Services and University Police Department. 

Maintain daily records of vehicles granted or denied entrance to restricted areas and submit written reports 

Normal work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30 pm. Flexibility to adjust work schedule is required to meet department needs of flex scheduling for fill-in and special events as needed. 

Drives a state vehicle that requires a valid driver license.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary $15.00 - $17.00 hourly based on experience.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience and possession of a classified driver's license appropriate to the type of vehicle operated. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of traffic and parking laws and University parking rules and regulations  

• Working knowledge of radio codes and procedures     

• Working knowledge of procedures and equipment used in impounding/towing illegally parked vehicles   

• Working knowledge in basic math and calculations     

• Effective interpersonal skills  

• Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally including via radio, telephone, or other means as needed 

• Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
