Job Summary

(Competent) - Demonstrate competent clinical skills; utilize critical thinking to identify and meet patient needs; achieve positive patient outcomes through group process; display leadership traits that contribute to attainment of patient and departmental goals; assist with unit QI/research projects; identify actual legal/ethical issues and implement appropriate nursing actions.

 

Responsibilities

• Patient Care

Demonstrate more advanced assessment skills. Includes psychosocial assessment. Analyze and use lab data, test results, history and physical and any other pertinent data.

Independent in formulating nursing diagnosis. Utilize psychosocial data.

Recognition of changes in patient condition and revises plan of care independently. Seek assistance with follow through.

Develop measurable and individualized expected outcomes. Begin to look at long range effects of care.

Independently organize patient care.

Independently evaluate the plan of care.

Consistently consider pertinent information.

Consistently consider patient rights when providing nursing care.

Consistently provide privacy and maintain confidentiality.

• Knowledge and Skills

Independently identify own learning needs and seek appropriate learning opportunities.

Independently perform advanced skills.

Independently identify and use resources. Recommend resources to others.

Alert to incompetent, unethical and illegal practice; intervene according to CAMC policy and procedure.

• Professional Relationships/Leadership

Initiate and effectively demonstrate behaviors which result in positive patient outcomes through group process.

Initiate and independently achieve effective resolutions.

Identify nursing actions that have major impact on unit finances.

• Quality Improvement/Research

Knowledge of current research literature and how it impacts nursing.

Participate in development and implementation of unit QI monitoring project according to CAMC Policy and Procedure.

Identify, with assistance, need to change own practice according to QI/research finding.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

Education 

• Associate's Degree
• Bachelor's Degree
• Formalized Training (Required) Experience: 1 YEAR NURSING

 

Credentials 

• Registered Nurse (Required)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required) Within 1 year of hireWithin 1 year of hire
• Basic Life Support (Required) Within 30 days of hireWithin 30 days of hire
