Summary :The Manager, Cancer Research and Registry is responsible for the leadership and ongoing management of ThedaCare Cancer Care’s clinical research program, cancer registry team and program accreditation. Manages daily operations of the assigned program/area including administrative, fiscal, and clinical/technical activities. Provides strategic project management, facilitation and continuous improvement opportunities to assure quality care and reporting are followed in these areas. Provides oversite for the operation of the Clinical Research Trials Office including management of team members, grant budgets, contracts, research income, and invoicing. Is responsible for the coordination of cancer research and clinical trial protocol implementation to assure that program meets targets and remains compliant to standards. Oversee daily operations of Cancer Registry team and assures accurate cancer data collection and timely submission to state and national databases. Oversees cancer program accreditation processes and compliance to standards / guidelines.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

Effectively manages team members in a manner consistent with ThedaCare policies and values.

Ensures the recruitment and retention of competent team members to meet the needs of cancer research and cancer registry.

Is accountable for daily activities and work processes that result in quality outcomes.

Oversees and ensures accuracy of time and attendance and payroll practices.

Coordinates activities with physicians, leaders, team members, and other individuals and/or entities as necessary to ensure the success of the department.

Develops trusting relationships with non-ThedaCare and ThedaCare physicians, team members, and leaders.

Develops and achieves safety, quality, service, access, cost, and people performance targets for the responsible areas.

Leads and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the cancer research team and helps facilitate compliance to all clinical trial procedures.

Ensures that process improvements create value for teams and are successfully implemented and measured.

Oversees and manages contracts related to research programming and clinical trials. Acts as a liaison for the WiNCORP partnership between ThedaCare, Marshfield Clinic and Gundersen. 

Develops knowledge of clinical trial protocols associated with this NCI funded research grant.

Manages the Cancer Registry team; assures that data submitted to state /national databases is timely & accurate.

Develops deep understanding of regulatory and certification requirements related to the Commission on Cancer (CoC),  National Accreditation of Breast Centers (NAPBC), Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI),  and the ASTRO Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx) Hires, transfers, directs, and manages the performance of team members.

Develops performance expectations, coaches, evaluates, and motivates team members.

Investigates complaints and performance concerns.

Leads or implements ThedaCare initiatives, process improvements, and regulatory and/or policy changes through the work of team members by using effective change management principles to achieve high reliability outcomes.

Works collaboratively with other leaders in department and throughout ThedaCare.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field

Work Experience in Cancer Research or Cancer Registry preferred

Five years of progressive responsibility in a healthcare setting

Three years of leadership experience to include leading teams and/or projects

Physical Demands

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance

Category 2: Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

Work Environment

Normally works in climate controlled office environment

Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space

Use of computers throughout work day

Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrist and fingers
