The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities. **The Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH)** IDEPC Division seeks a team-orientated Epidemiologist Intermediate in the Healthcare-Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Section to provide epidemiologic support for active population and laboratory-based surveillance for Candidemia and epidemiologic leadership for HAI Outbreak Response. In this role, you will conduct case-based and sentinel surveillance initiatives addressing multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs) and studies of Candidemia as part of MDH activities for the Emerging Infections Program to assist with HAI outbreak response efforts based on surveillance findings. You will also act as a liaison with the Infection Control Assessment and Response Unit, Medical epidemiologists and the CDC; to advise health professionals, other agencies, and the public on HAI outbreak prevention and control measures; and to support the general functions of the HAI/AR Section **Primary Job Duties:** + Provide epidemiologic support for active population and laboratory-based surveillance for _Candidemia_ as part of MDH activities for the Emerging Infections Program Healthcare Associated Infections/Community Interface (HAIC). + Conduct active, real-time response to potential HAI outbreaks including epidemiologic support and collaboration with partners. + Conduct special epidemiologic studies of _Candidemia_ infections as part of MDH activities for HAIC. **This position is a hybrid position based out of St. Paul with a combination of in-office and telework.** **Occasional travel for in-person meetings, trainings and conferences is expected. Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.** This is a temporary position with an anticipated end date of 10/28/2027. **Minimum Qualifications** **The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant’s resume/application to be considered for this position.** Three (3) years of experience in a public health setting that includes designing and conducting epidemiologic investigations and/or surveillance. Experience must include the following: + Infectious disease epidemiology and control + Conducting outbreak investigations + Healthcare associated infections surveillance **Minimum qualifications to be assessed at time of interview:** + Knowledge and practical experience in the use of epidemiological principles. + Knowledge of the maintenance of surveillance systems, relational databases, data analysis, and interpretations. + Knowledge of public health, health care systems, health data, and health data standards and interoperability. + Ability to conceptualize alternative solutions to complex issues. **Education Equivalencies:** + Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or closely related field of study will substitute for one (1) year of experience. + Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or closely related field of study will substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience. + Doctorate degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or closely related field of study will substitute for two (2) years of experience. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or closely related field of study. + An understanding of the clinical and epidemiological aspects of Candidemia infections, including modes of transmission, factors affecting diseases, occurrence, and strategies for intervention, prevention, and treatment + Knowledge of the principles of epidemiology to conduct epidemiological studies and maintain disease surveillance systems. + Knowledge of biostatistics and ability to maintain surveillance systems, database development, data analysis and interpretations. + Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices. + Experience in conducting special epidemiologic studies of Candidemia infections, including working with CDC and state HAIC partners. + Experience conducting investigations of HAI infectious diseases including outbreaks. **Additional Requirements** + This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check. + This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
