General Summary

This position is responsible for oversight of approximately $40 million in capital projects including cost review and standardized project set up as well as estimating, designing, and building significant new construction materials facilities. This position will lead the teams responsible to plan and build plant capital projects across our Materials Segment in addition to providing assistance to advance the Operational Excellence initiative for the Materials Business

This position is responsible for oversight of approximately $40 million in capital projects including cost review and standardized project set up as well as estimating, designing, and building significant new construction materials facilities.  This position will lead the teams responsible to plan and build plant capital projects across our Materials Segment in addition to providing assistance to advance the Operational Excellence initiative for the Materials Business.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Establish consistent cost estimating, project scheduling, and capital project construction practices across the Materials Segment to ensure capital projects are delivered on time and within the budget constraints for the projects. Review all significant capital project cost estimates and create Self Constructed Asset (SCA) projects for approved cost estimates.  Ensure that appropriate forecasting, scheduling, and cost tracking takes place for SCA’s after setup. Responsible for project management, when projects are led by Operational Excellence team, to provide project estimates, resource requirements, detailed schedule, work plans, and overall construction management. Proactively manages project costs to meet budget and established timelines. Monitors progress and makes adjustments as needed. Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables. Provides field supervision/inspection services on construction projects. Performs post-project review to ensure key objectives, cost/performance improvements, and overall project objectives are achieved. Prepares bid packages for construction scope and equipment/materials procurement under the direction of the Operational Excellence and Equipment Manager.  Provides project updates on a regular frequency to various stakeholders about budget, strategy, adjustments, and progress. Works with the automation team to ensure projects include hardware and software consistent with automation goals including automated plant controls and data collection. Assist with standardization of plant controls across the materials business.  Provide schedule and cost perspectives relative to various plant control options for capital improvements. Work closely with other Optimization Engineers to identify processing bottlenecks and necessary adjustments related to productivity demands and changing field conditions. Act as a mentor and resource for young engineers to help in their development as future operations experts and leaders. Perform other duties as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent work experience preferred.

Work Experience

Minimum 10 to 15 years’ experience in a mining and material processing environment.Strong preference for 10+ years estimating and project management experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

General knowledge of the construction materials business.Knowledge and experience with Hot Mix Asphalt, mining, and Aggregate Plants.Must have demonstrated decision making skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in high production environment.Advanced mechanical knowledge of construction material processing plants and heavy equipment.Must be able to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.Must have strong computer skills.Must have strong estimating and scheduling skills.Physical Demands

Base Salary Range: 

$112,580.00 - $168,869.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.  ​
