Major Responsibilities:
Maintain complete documentation of cardiovascular procedures
1)Ensures completion of all registry abstracts.
2)Prepares patient for emergency Coronary Artery Bypass Graft(CABG) by proper documentation, sending necessary blood work to lab, notifying CV team.
3)Retrieve reports of past procedures and acquire a general knowledge of the Cardiac Cath lab office.
4)Assist when necessary with the scheduling of procedures.
Participate in in-services, continuing education, and workshops to remain abreast of new procedures and current technologies
1)Maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification, perform CPR, ventilate patient; maintain, supply and operate defibrillator and crash cart in all emergency situations.
Accountable for the maintenance of quality control in all areas of the lab
1)Prepare laboratory by setting up sterile tables, supplies for all procedures, and perform quality assurance of x-ray equipment.
Provide a secure and safe environment for patients and staff maintaining constant awareness of safety hazards
1)*Daily maintenance of housekeeping duties including cleanliness, neatness and overall appearance of work area.
2)Comprehension of radiology safety precautions as demonstrated by passing tests applicable to activities of the lab.
Assistance with new staff orientation within the department
1)Act as a preceptor to include providing direction and support to orientees and staff as needed.
Act as a role model within the department serving as a resource person for all clinical activities
1)Act as a role model/resource person for staff including all components necessary for a special procedure, such as supplies, special arrangements of staff and documentation.
Assisting in the development of new operating procedures
1)Assist in the input on technical aspects of new procedures or equipment.
2)Assist in writing new procedures.
Education/Experience Required:
Typically requires 2 years cardiac cath lab experience. Demonstrated proficiency in PTCA, EPS preferred , with an AAS in RTR, or RTN license. or a minimum of 5years experience as RTR or RTN experience preferred. -Minimum of 12 CEU hours per year. -This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
-Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. -Ability to anticipate patient and unit needs. -Ability to teach procedures to the staff.
-Current License in the state of IL as a RTR, RTN, RCVT, or Paramedic (EMT-P)-ACLS, IABP. RCIS within two years of employment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
The ability to function in a high stress environment, lift and move heavy patients and equipment, stand for long periods of time, wearing lead apron (approx. 18 lbs.), and work flexible hours and on-call basis. All cath lab staff must be able to respond to off hour call-ins within thirty minutes of the pager going off.
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
