Gundersen Health System is seeking a Cardiac Device Specialist in the Electrophysiology/Device Clinic.  

What you will do:

Work 40 hours/every two weeks

8-hour day shifts Monday- Friday

No weekends, holidays, or call obligation

Provide direct and indirect care and monitoring of patients with implantable cardiac device, pacemaker, loop recorder, and defibrillator.

What you need:

Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field

4-5 years experience as an Exercise Physiologist, Kinesiologist, or EKG/Telemetry Tech

Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 1 year of hire

Desired: ECG Rhythm Interpretation Certification and Medtronic Academy or Arrythmia Technologies Institute Jumpstart courses

Job Description:

The Cardiac Device Specialist evaluates, manages, and provides support in the delivery of quality clinical care of patients with implantable cardiac devices. Demonstrates knowledge of the device effects and purpose and utilizes critical thinking to deliver excellent patient care. Provides direct and indirect care and monitoring of patients with implantable cardiac device, pacemaker, loop recorder, and defibrillator. Provides technical support and advice to Cardiac device clinic staff and providers (Physicians/APCs) to ensure optimal patient results. Makes required adjustments to implantable devices as needed for patient care. cardiac device specialist works under the direction and supervision of the Electrophysiologist and Associate staff.

Major Responsibilities:

1.    Familiar in the use of Abbott/St Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Biotronik Device Programmers
2.    Management of remote device checks, alerts and patient enrollment, equipment requests utilizing Merlin, Latitude, Carelink and Biotronik websites 
3.    Daily review and documentation of remote transmissions 
4.    Interrogate, interpret, and re-program cardiac devices with supervision

5.    Troubleshoot critical device issues and take immediate steps towards resolution 
6.    Knowledge of the technological aspects of devices (pacemakers, ICDs, pulse generators, leads and electrodes, sensing, stimulation, timing cycles, algorithms and defibrillation concepts).
7.    Knowledge of ECG interpretive skills (identification and differentiation of arrhythmia), cardiac clinical assessment, and routine cardiovascular pharmacological agents (indications, use and effects)
8.    Review, document and summarize all acquired device information that will be sent to provider for review 
9.    Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol

10.    Adheres to regular and predictable attendance
11.    Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients
12.    Ensures patient safety

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or other related health care field

DESIRED

Attend Medtronic Academy (or another comparable industry) courses

Attend Arrythmia Technologies Institute Jumpstart course

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

4-5 years in a clinical cardiology experience

Experience as an exercise physiologist, kinesiologist, or EKG/Telemetry Tech experience

DESIRED  

2 years of industry experience with pacemaker and ICD interrogation and/or reprogramming

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year of hire

DESIRED

ECG Rhythm Interpretation certification
