Spotting that “needle in a haystack” comes in handy as you analyze data and detect outliers from your patients' cardiac monitors, documenting and reporting abnormal patterns, addressing telemetry equipment issues, and maintaining supplies.

Your Everyday
Observe cardiac monitor for proper waveform on each telemetry patient, prevent the loss of signal and ensure accurate capture of potential cardiac events.
Assign telemetry transmitter patients and assist the staff in establishing/maintaining electrode placement using proper skin preparation.
Select the lead for monitoring and ensure an acceptable tracing, check battery function/replacement batteries.
Identify and notify the nursing staff of baseline cardiac rate and rhythm, document with a rhythm strip, investigate loss of signal or apparent lead disconnection with the nursing staff.
Provide continuous surveillance of cardiac rhythm in accordance with the algorithm established in the central monitoring policy, notify the staff nurse of a rhythm change, activate the rapid response or code blue team, as indicated.
Maintain rhythm strips, monitoring logs in accordance with the central cardiac monitoring policy and as evidence by random audits of the logbooks.
Interpret EKG by analyzing and recording atrial and ventricular rates and rhythms.
Participate in unit initiatives and quality improvement.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
Contribute to the team by assisting others without being asked.
The Must-Haves
Minimum:
High School Diploma/GED
Completion of cardiac monitor training course or 1 year experience as an EKG tech or monitoring cardiac rhythms
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (CPR, BLS)
