Position Purpose:
Cardiology Technicians assume responsibility for producing high quality EKG tracings and rhythm strips while recognizing atypical EKG patterns and arrhythmias. Cardiology Technicians also produce high quality cardiac tracings from stress tests and tilt table tests.
The purpose of this position, under the supervision of the is to perform electrocardiographic exams on a routine and emergency basis and to maintain these records according to Department Policy.
Nature and Scope:
This position greets patients, physicians, and the general public in a manner consistent with the Standards of Conduct of Renown Health. Upon the receipt of a physician order this position performs EKGs, rhythm strips, exercise stress tests, signal averaged EKGs, and tilt table tests according to department policy. These exams are performed on a routine and emergency basis and the Cardiology Tech will need to respond to situations involving cardiac arrest and major trauma. The employee should expect to perform exams at the bedside, in an outpatient setting, the Cardiac Cath Lab, Radiology, Operating Room, Emergency Department, and all critical care units. The employee must be able to respond immediately to STAT requests and be able to make the transition of working in a relatively low stress office environment to performing well in a high stress clinical situation. The employee will type physician interpretations and will maintain patient records using computerized technology and will be required to enter data via a keyboard. The employee performs the necessary paperwork to insure timely distribution of reports to appropriate locations.
The employee must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the newborn through geriatric age groups and meets hospital and department standards of quality.
This position may also carry out administrative functions of the Cardiovascular Department. The Cardiology Technician schedules exams, answers phones, bills patient accounts, maintains the filing systems for the various technical areas, greets outpatients, and maintains databases.
This position does provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
Experience:
Patient care experience is required, Cardiographic Technology (preferred). Possess the ability to demonstrate recognition of atypical EKG patterns and arrhythmias. Must pass department EKG exam at 85% within 3 months of hire.

Certification(s):
CPR certification by AHA standards for providers is required within 60 days of hire.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
