Cardiovascular Lab Technician I

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Perioperative Director the Cath lab Tech performs in the role of scrub in the Cath lab. The cath lab tech assists in the performance of invasive and non-invasive coronary and peripheral procedures and pacemaker implants in the cath lab. The tech will also assist the charge nurse with recovery room duties as needed and serves in the role of preceptor for new personnel.

Responsibilities:

Ensures product compliance with system and local contracts. Schedules rep presence for cases when needed. Inventories product to ensure outdates are removed and/or eliminated. Collects and assesses relevant information regarding status of the patient including identification, procedure, appropriateness for indicated signs and symptoms, pregnancy status, patient preparation, contraindications and safety screenings. Evaluates lab values, prior medical studies, medications and patient's tolerance to safely and accurately provide care according to established policies. Selects appropriate shielding, immobilization devices, patient positioning, imaging coils, contrast and makes pharmaceutical selections. Carries out interventions, verifies orders prior to exam and facilitates local anesthesia safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes. Makes recommendations to physician and health care team during exam based on clinical signs and symptom or disease processes. Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes. Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated. Documents and communicates all required components of patient care. Adheres to equipment safety standards and identifies and appropriately reports variances and concerns, daily and weekly equipment checks including maintenance and cleaning, equipment quality checks [film printing and monitors], equipment problem reporting. Reviews, controls, orders and deletes cardiovascular lab supplies in conjunction with materials management and supervisor. Serves as coach/preceptor for new personnel, students and others.  

Qualifications: 

Required:

Graduated from accredited Radiological Technologist Program RT (R). One year of prior cardiovascular lab experience. As of April 1, 2016: Cardiac Rhythms class within six months of employment. Must be proficient in roles of scrub or monitoring staff in the cardiovascular lab and able to independently perform. Ability to rapidly interpret lab data and make recommendations on the data obtained, knowledge of general radiology and practice. Registered ARRT Current Kansas state radiology licensure BLS certification within the first two weeks of employment and ACLS certification within six months of employment; additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Preferred:

Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)/Registered Cardiovascular Technician (RCVT). May require additional state licensure based on population served.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
