Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab Tech (PRN)

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

Under the supervision of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation staff, performs various duties to assist with the patient care of the patients in cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular rehabilitation.  Follows established policies and procedures of the hospital and for the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation department.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1:  Able to understand and follow directions as given by the cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation staff. Duty 2:  Assist professional staff with monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.  Reports any significant participant conditions to professional staff. Duty 3:  Assist in checking blood pressure and oxygen saturation on all participants before, during and after exercise and watching for abnormal responses on the telemetry. Duty 4:  Assist with setting-up the exercise equipment for the participants and demonstrating warm-up, strength training, and cool-down exercises Duty 5:  Chart documentation. Duty 6:  Assist with cleaning the exercise equipment and other patient-care items. Duty 7: Demonstrate a basic understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary risk factors, anatomy, physiology and common cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions. Duty 8: Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.  Demonstrates ability to perform CPR. Duty 9:  Maintains a safe environment for self, patient, visitors and other health care professionals with consistent us of safety standards/policies and procedures. Duty 10: Maintains HIPPA and confidentiality guidelines as per hospital policy and procedure. Duty 11: Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate or GED equivalent. BLS certification within 60 days. Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required. Behavior needs to adhere to BVHS policies regarding workplace civility and standards of behavior. Comply with all organizational privacy policies and procedures.  Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area’s policies and procedures    

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Assistant Certification/Registered/Diploma. Previous Medical experience. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience. Experience taking manual vitals. Experience with glucometer testing Experience communicating with patients over the phone and in-person.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting, and standing.  The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, stand for five hours a day and sit for two hours.  The individual must be able to lift twenty pounds and reach work above the shoulders.    The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity to operate machines.  The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to communicate with patients, providers, and co-workers.  The associate must have vision corrected and hearing in the normal range.
