Program Description: Graham Windham’s Beacon Harlem Program is a resource full of opportunity for community members from kindergarten through adulthood. The Harlem Beacon offers a safe, joyful, academically enriching and stimulating environment for elementary and middle school children. High school students have the opportunity for enrichment, career exploration and athletics with adults experiencing community engagement, athletics, life coaching and parent groups. The Beacon partners with our host school, Mahalia Jackson PS/MS 123 and Graham’s Community School located at PS/MS 123 to assist in the in an extended academic day, to develop specific strategies to address student and family issues including absenteeism, behavior and health and wellness. In addition, the Beacon connects with community resources and the strength in community to expand offerings. During the summer, the program provides free Summer Rising camp for elementary through middle school students.
