Job Description:
The Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University welcomes applications for the role of Career Services Specialist II (Career Coordinator). Reporting to the Assistant Director of Business Career services, the Career Coordinator supports the office’s mission of preparing students for lifelong career success through customized coaching, competency-focused teaching, experience-based learning, and connectivity with industry.
The Career Coordinator will support students as they explore majors, engage in experiential learning and prepare to exit from the institution. The selected candidate will be part of a team of eight who aspire to be known as knowledgeable, dedicated, supportive, connected, and innovative.
The Career Coordinator will coach students one-on-one, teach a professional development course, and coordinate career-related programming. The ideal candidate will have strengths in interpersonal communication, public speaking, and project management. The selected individual must be a dependable professional who takes initiative, is capable of independent judgement, enjoys working collaboratively, and values continuous improvement.
Example Duties:
+ Facilitate one-on-one coaching appointments with students studying specific majors, in this instance, business economics and finance; topics include exploring majors and careers, searching for internships and jobs, composing application materials, preparing for interviews, and evaluating offers
+ Teach one to two in-person sections of a credit-bearing professional development course each semester with approximately 70 students per section
+ Plan, execute, and evaluate small- and large-scale career events
+ Liaise with student organizations, supporting their programming, and occasionally presenting content relevant to the department’s mission
+ Initiate and nurture relationships with employer partners, improving students’ access to high quality internships and post-graduation jobs
+ Collect first-destination outcomes from students within six months of graduation
+ Leverage technology; platforms relevant to Career Services at Iowa State University include 12twenty, Big Interview, CandidCareer, GoinGlobal, and LinkedIn Learning
+ Stay current through involvement with professional associations
