Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The College of Business at Colorado State University is an AACSB accredited business school which enrolls more than 2,600 undergraduate students in eleven business concentrations and approximately 1,500 graduate students across multiple graduate programs. While we are the largest undergraduate and graduate major on campus, we strive to create a small college environment.
The College of Business Career Management Center provides comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, of Colorado State University’s College of Business. Services include career counseling, assessment and development, internship and job search assistance, personal marketing for career opportunities, instruction of career courses, cultivating employer partnerships to advance career outcomes for students, and hosting of employer events.
Position Summary
The Career Engagement Specialist is a joint member of both the Career Counseling and Employer Relations Teams, with the responsibility to support the career readiness of College of Business students and alumni through individual career advising/coaching and career education, as well as the cultivation of relationships with current and prospective employers seeking to engage, and ultimately hire, business students and alumni.
This role utilizes knowledge of the career development process in their work with students and alumni, including career development practices, career readiness competencies, labor market and hiring trends, interview skills, resume and cover letter techniques, and strategies to secure internships and jobs, among other relevant approaches. This position supports, guides, and trains students and alumni in both individual and group interactions. This may include the development, coordination, and delivery of student workshops, class presentations, and potential for career courses and group experiences.
This role will also work as a member of the Employer Relations team with a focus of cultivating new, and maintaining existing, employer partners. This position will assist in the development, planning, and execution of engaging employer-focused opportunities that connect College of Business students and alumni with potential employers and increase career knowledge.
In addition to the student and employer facing components of this role, this position will engage in and contribute to the development and ongoing management of department initiatives, programs, and resources that strategically impact College goals, student career readiness, and the successful outcomes of students.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Career Management Center will not provide visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as business, human resources, human development, or other related field.
+ Minimum of 2 years professional experience (may include internships in career services, student affairs in higher education, or other related fields)
+ Demonstrated experience in career development, career planning, recruitment, employer relations, and or talent development
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in a relevant area such as career counseling, student affairs/administration in higher education, business, human resources, or related field.
+ Degree in business
+ Professional commitment to CSU’s Principles of Community (Inclusion, Integrity, Respect, Service, Social Justice)
+ Knowledge of effective career advising and/or coaching strategies that support the career development of college students and alumni
+ Experience planning or executing career events
+ Experience in employer relations within a career services office

+ Advise and coach diverse and global business students across undergraduate, graduate, and alumni populations through individual appointments (45 minutes) and drop-in meetings (15 minutes), supporting navigation of the career development and search process.
+ Utilize a student-centered, holistic, and strategic approach to help students navigate career development, search, and transition processes.
+ Guide students/alumni related to career pathing, industry and labor market information and trends, specifically related to CSU College of Business concentration and program focus areas.
+ Utilize informal and formal career assessments, including Clifton Strengths and CareerLeader (based on training and expertise).
+ Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals as needed, including to resources within and outside of the university.
+ Attend Career Counseling Team meetings.

+ Outreach to employers and actively market the CSU College of Business to develop new opportunities in diverse career fields that match business student interests.
+ Develop and maintain relationships with employers to help them create a strategic approach to developing talent pipelines and participating in engagement opportunities.
+ Effectively communicate with prospective and existing employers to promote upcoming career events and to ensure employers have all the needed information and understanding to be ready to effectively engage students and alumni.
+ Contribute as a member of the Employer Relations team to the event planning, strategy, and logistics for career fairs, networking events, panel discussions, and information tables
+ Stay up to date on employment policies and best practices related to internships and campus recruiting.
+ Utilize technology platforms such as Handshake and Salesforce to help promote and track student and employer engagement.
+ Serve as a career co-liaison to a wide variety of business-focused student organizations, including but not limited to identity-based groups (i.e. Latinx Business Association, First Generation Business Association, Women in Business, Business Pride) Collaborate to foster engagement between student organizations and employers to support career readiness among students.
+ Serve as direct contact for business and industry involving all aspects of internships and job placements.

+ Engage in the Career Management Center’s team approach to establishing goals, planning events, facilitating career fairs and networking functions, refining programs, developing new resources, conducting class and group presentations, and teaching career management-related courses.
+ Develop career resource content for the Career Management Center’s website (bizcareers.colostate.edu), online learning platforms, social media, email newsletters, and career guides. Topics addressed could include career exploration in business, internship processes, targeted job searching, offer negotiation, resume and cover letter creation, interviewing, building social capital, career-relevant social media strategies, and career and life design.
+ Partner as needed on Career Management Center programs, such as Mock Interview Program, Mentoring Program, Professional Development Fund, international student programming, etc.
+ Actively participate in Career Management Center shared responsibilities to produce high-quality events, such as Job & Internship Expos, Career Fairs, Career Meetups, etc.
+ Attend and be an active contributor to departmental team and staff meetings.
+ Effectively participate in the development and nurturing of relationships with Career Management Center stakeholders, including employer partners, prospective employers, university career services partners, and internal College of Business faculty and staff.
