**Career Services Associate - Bronx Library Center/Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (P/T)** **Department:** Branch Services & Programs **Employment Type:** Part Time **Location:** Various Locations **Reporting To:** Louisa Tatum **Compensation:** $25.00 / hour **Description** **Overview** The Career Services Department (CS) provides career development support for a diverse population within New York City, including job seekers, re-entry, students, career changers, veterans, and 55+ adults, to achieve their career goals. Offering free one-on-one coaching and workshops that focus on the different aspects of job search and career development. Career Services has two offices, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, and the Bronx Library Center. The BLC/SNFL Associate reports to Career Services two offices throughout the week. At the Bronx Library Center, the Associate serves as a welcoming and informative first-point-of-contact for patrons visiting Career Services at the Bronx Library Center (310 East Kingsbridge Rd.) to ensure members remain engaged and are connected with services to meet their needs. At the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, the Associate serves as a support to the Career Services staff on-site, The Associate works in tandem with Career Services staff to ensure the smooth execution of a range of NYPL/Career Services programs and outreach service events. This position is in-person. **Responsibilities** General: + Maintain a high level of customer services, as the first-point-of-contact for patrons visiting Career Services, and monitor access to the office + Conduct daily one-on-one job support appointments editing resume and cover letter documents, page formatting and review spelling and grammar; as well as submitting job applications for employment or education + Refer patrons to other departments, programs and resources provided by NYPL + Assist with job support walk-in participants’ requests at SNFL during dedicated dates/times Specific to BLC: + Make Career Services appointments for patrons + Research education or occupational training programs for career advancement, and print out flyers + Supports coordinator and BLC staff with call reminders as needed, and enter data into system + Performs related duties as required. **Required Education, Experience & Skills** **Required Education & Certifications** + 2 years of college or high school diploma and equivalent experience **Required Experience** + Ability to speak Spanish is strongly desired + Strong computer skills and knowledge of using Microsoft Office programs and Google Drive products. + Successfully demonstrated public service experience and the ability to work well with diverse patrons + Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop preferred **Required Skills** + Adaptable to changing work environments and is a lifelong learner + Excellent communication skills—written and verbal—for varied audiences + Strong organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously + Proficient computer and technology skills using Windows 10, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, and advanced internet skills + Excellent documentation skills, ability to navigate multiple data entry systems, and strong written and verbal communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently **Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities** + N/A **More...** **Core Values** _All team members are expected and encouraged to embody the NYPL Core Values:_ + Be **Helpful** to patrons and colleagues + Be **Resourceful** in solving problems + Be **Curious** in all aspects of your work + Be **Welcoming** and **Inclusive** **Work Environment** + Office setting + Public library setting + Other workshop and public speaking environments **Physical Duties** + Limited physical effort is required + May involve some light physical labor such as the moving and lifting of supply boxes or program supplies + Requires travel within NYC **Pre-Placement** **Physical Required?** No **Union/Non Union** Non-Union **FLSA Status** Non-Exempt **Schedule** + Must have flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as needed, willing to travel to various locations, as needed. + 19 hours per week _This job description represents the types and levels of responsibilities that will be required of the position and shall not be construed as a declaration of all of the specific duties and responsibilities for the role.
