Description
The Career Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role within Student Services, reporting directly to the Dean of Students collaborating effectively in a team-based environment to coordinate and enhance career development opportunities for students. This multifaceted position entails managing the placement of Federal Work Study positions throughout the college, while also serving as the primary liaison for business and industry relations.
The Career Services Coordinator will work closely with the Dean of Students to manage client relation management systems such as Handshake and World of Work Inventory (WOWI). To be successful in this role, you must possess excellent attention to detail, outstanding network-focused interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Examples of Duties
Career Counseling and Management of Career Assessment Tools: Providing personalized career guidance to students, which may involve administering and interpreting career assessments (World of Work Inventory (WOWI) and HandShake) to help them make informed decisions about their career paths and academic programs.
Career Readiness: The coordinator will work with current students and alumni to ensure they are prepared for either continuing their education, or for the world of work. The coordinator will provide one on one appointments tailored to fit the students’ needs such as one on one resume building appointments, interview coaching and mock interview practice.
Learn and Earn: The coordinator will work with local businesses on all aspects of Learn and Earn contracts. The coordinator will set up initial employer meetings, create the contract, answer questions, monitor enrollment status of students and work with the Higher Education Policy Liaison to ensure success of the Learn and Earn program. In addition, the coordinator will help with recruitment of Learn and Earn positions when needed.
Campus Programming and Events: Developing and executing various campus programming activities, events, and classroom presentations aimed at engaging students in their educational experiences and preparing them for career readiness. Examples can include but do not limit Resume Workshops, Career Fairs, Transfer Fair, Mock Interviews, Don’t Cancel Class Campaign.
Supervision and Training: Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid to manage Federal/State Work Study Students. Maintaining Work-Study Job Descriptions, Pay rates, job placement. Organizing the Federal work study job fair in order to develop students’ job and interview skills. Supervision, placement and training of all on and off campus work-study students, ensuring they effectively support career-related initiatives.
Job Search Assistance: Assisting students in developing job search competencies such as resume building, interview preparation, and workplace professionalism through counseling sessions, presentations, and activities.
Collaboration with Other Departments: Coordinating with other departments to identify and implement joint initiatives that introduce new career opportunities and benefits to students.
Community Business and Industry Liaison: The coordinator will work directly with Community Business’ and Industry partners to provide employment and career opportunities for BridgeValley Students. The coordinator will partner with these agencies to provide learning opportunities such as internships, and workshops.
Reports Preparation: Preparing reports within Career Services and sending them to the Dean for evaluation.
Participate in institutional committees as assigned.

Qualifications
• Associate degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the duties of the job
• Two years of experience in providing customer service and at least one year of experience working in a post-secondary environment
• A demonstrated ability to make effective use of technology including Microsoft Office products
• Experience in establishing and maintaining a system of data entry and record keeping
• Must be able to work evening hours as needed and occasional weekends
• Excellent customer service skills and responsiveness
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and give attention to detail
• Strong skills in technology, communication, and problem-solving
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees
