Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Inspector / Surveyor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting inspections in accordance with client requirements, company standards, and legal work instructions. You will collaborate closely with the Operations Supervisor to ensure smooth operational processes and compliance with safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Adhere to Bureau Veritas’ Statement of Integrity, maintaining the highest ethical standards in all activities. Conduct thorough inspections based on client requirements and company policies, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. Interface with vessel officers, terminal representatives, and Operations Supervisors to ensure smooth operations and resolve any discrepancies. Prepare comprehensive field reports, ensuring they meet assignment instructions and customer requirements. Assist and guide trainee inspectors in performing inspection activities. Maintain and verify the accuracy of issued measuring equipment, ensuring its readiness for use. Ensure correct manifestation of prescribed inspection procedures and take necessary actions in case of discrepancies or untoward incidents. Compile field documents and submit them to the Operations Supervisor for review. Prepare preliminary reports and submit them for review and encoding by the Operations Supervisor. Participate in relevant training and pass examinations related to inspection procedures and safety protocols. Adhere to safety practices when working in hazardous environments, as defined by Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Comply with all vessel and terminal rules and safety regulations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation and ISO procedures. Maintain confidentiality of company procedures, reports, and client information. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically fit and capable of climbing storage tanks, vessel gangways, ladders, and stairs up to 65 feet high. Ability to carry up to 75 pounds of equipment, samples, or apparatus. Must be able to differentiate colors by visual observation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of API & ASTM standards applicable to the industry. Understanding of environmental and safety practices in the petroleum and chemical industries. Practical experience in performing inspections related to petroleum and chemicals. Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently. Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure with multiple concurrent tasks. Capability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent field, preferred. Completion of an inspection operation course (specific to petroleum and chemicals). Active certification from IFIA (International Federation of Inspection Agencies) is an advantage. Previous practical experience in inspection is highly desirable.
Supervision and Reporting
Work is performed independently under general supervision, following instructions, company policies, and procedures. Regular contact with internal departments, including the Operations Supervisor, other inspectors, and support staff. External client interaction as necessary.
