Carlin - Environmental Engineer I

JOB PURPOSE                            

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for an Environmental professional to join the Carlin Environmental Department as a Compliance and Biodiversity Specialist. The successful candidate will perform a variety of technical and administrative work to ensure that legal and other compliance obligations required by the Plans of Operations and Reclamation Permits are achieved, with a specific focus on Biodiversity related programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES                     

Primary responsibilities and tasks:

Complete activities associated with Carlin’s Biodiversity program, including biological survey oversight, habitat management, noxious weed management, and wildlife management. Develop and execute the annual biodiversity management plan established for the Carlin site. Manage long-term riparian restoration and habitat mitigation projects. Track mine impacts to biodiversity and develop habitat mitigation projects. Successfully implement and manage biodiversity related EIS/ROD Requirements. Complete Plan of Operations modifications and updates, as needed. Complete Reclamation Permit modifications and updates, as needed. Assist with baseline surveys and permitting actions, as needed. Assist with stormwater inspection monitoring and reporting. Prepare quarterly and annual compliance reports, as required by permits and programs. Manage contractors to ensure safe delivery of project objectives. Engage with regulatory agency personnel, as needed. Assist with training of NGM employees, contractors, and others. Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents, including potential wildlife mortality cause investigation. This position requires the ability to operate a light vehicle in off-road and/or inclement conditions. This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required

Experience

Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required In-depth experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required Experience in regulatory agency interactions preferred Experience with Great Basin wildlife and ecology preferred One to three years in a mining industry setting preferred Experience with GIS preferred Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred
