Position Overview: A Carpenter is responsible for safely performing a wide variety of skilled carpentry tasks using different types of materials including wood, steel and concrete in a commercial construction setting. Essential Functions:   + Responsible for your own safety and the safety of others working around you.  As a carpenter you will be expected to set an example of how to work safely in the field and respectfully correct any safety issues you see on site. + Participate in job site safety meetings and discussions + Safely operate construction tools and equipment, inspect prior to use + Accurately measure and perform layout according to plans/specs + Install reinforcement bar + Concrete finish and form work + Frame using wood and/or metal studs + Perform interior finish carpentry + Perform general clean-up and material handling + Install doors, hardware, windows, siding, cabinets, fixtures, and millwork + Perform demolition + Attach covering materials such as plywood sheathing, wallboard, and paneling + Drywall Finish + Repair building envelopes + Install/replace flashings + Install/apply waterproofing materials + Complete punch list items + Perform additional assignments as requested by the Self-Perform Workforce Superintendent Qualifications/Skills: + Self-starter and motivated by deadlines + Ability to follow OR-OSHA and R&H safety practices + Intermediate knowledge of commercial construction processes and techniques + Ability to read and interpret building plans/drawings/specifications + Detail-oriented with an analytical approach to solving problems + Advanced experience using construction hand and power tools + Willingness to learn + Take a collaborative and proactive approach to solving problems + Takes personal responsibility for issues that arise + Attention to quality with ability to put accurate work product in place + Ability to put work product in place in a timely manner + Ability to solve math equations + Bilingual is a plus + Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required Experience/Education/Training: + Commercial construction safety knowledge / training + 2+ Years of carpentry experience + High School Diploma or GED preferred + Apprenticeship program a plus Physical Activities: Key: Rarely (0-20%), Occasionally (21-50%), Frequently (51-80%), and Continuously (81+%) + Continuous standing, walking (frequently on uneven surfaces) + Frequently bending/stooping + Rarely crawling + Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrists + Occasional kneeling + Occasional climbing + Continuous grasping + Frequently push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Work Environment: This position generally requires 8 hours a day.  The workweek is Monday-Friday and occasionally on weekends/nights depending on the project.  This position is based out of our Portland office, but the incumbent would be required to work on jobsites throughout the greater Portland metropolitan area.  In addition, the position may require travel.  This position requires work in the outdoors in all types of weather.  It requires walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods, at times in confined spaces.  Work occurs on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations.  Employees may be exposed to dust, fumes, noise and unpleasant variation in temperature.  Work requires lifting and carrying heavy objects.  Some positions require working around chemicals and caustic compounds.  R&H will provide all necessary personal protective equipment to keep you safe.
