Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Carpenter to join our team in Gaborone, Botswana. As a key member of our construction and maintenance crew, you will be responsible for creating, installing, and repairing wooden structures and fixtures in various projects.

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirementsSelect appropriate materials and measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials to meet project specificationsConstruct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframesDesign and build custom furniture, cabinetry, and other wooden fixturesInstall prefabricated units such as windows, doors, and staircasesInspect and replace damaged framework or other wooden structuresMaintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and proceduresCollaborate with other construction professionals to ensure project goals are met efficientlyProvide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with clients and addressing their needsMaintain and care for carpentry tools and equipmentAssist in training junior carpenters and apprentices as needed

QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical institute certification in carpentry preferredMinimum of 2 years of experience as a carpenter in residential or commercial settingsProficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawingsExtensive knowledge of various wood types, their properties, and appropriate applicationsSkilled in using hand tools and power tools specific to carpentryStrong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practicesPhysical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring lifting, climbing, and prolonged standingExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailStrong communication and teamwork abilitiesValid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sitesFlexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and deadlinesCommitment to ongoing learning and staying updated with new techniques and materials in the field
