Job Title: Carpenter

Job Description

We are seeking skilled carpenters with experience in hull treatment and non-metallic coating operations. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to read tape measures. The ideal candidates will have experience in woodwork and be open to working with adhesives.

ResponsibilitiesResponsible for all hull treatment and non-metallic coating related operations for designated jobs.Maintain a high quality of workmanship while supervising Mechanics and Apprentices.Coordinate with other Foremen and shipyard employees to ensure job completion.Inspect all equipment for proper working conditions and perform repairs as needed.Perform physical and organizational duties under the leadership of Superintendents.Communicate effectively with inspectors and owner representatives and attend inspections of hull treatment work.Organize, supervise, lead, and train employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe.Supervise SHT crew in all essential job requirements.Ensure installation is done to manufacturers’ specifications, directing Mechanics to correct any areas not up to standard.Submit crewmembers’ timesheets into payroll by the deadline.Make decisions as required and perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.Comply with clean shaven standards needed to wear half/full face respirator.Able to obtain access into a shipyard environment.Follow all company rules and policies.Essential SkillsAbility to read tape measuresExperience in woodworkStrong attention to detailExperience with tile and carpentryAbility to work with adhesivesAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience as a shipfitter is a plusExperience in supervising and training employeesGood communication skillsAbility to organize and lead a teamWillingness to comply with safety standardsWhy Work Here?

Work Environment

You will be working at Norfolk Naval on the USS Warner. This environment requires adherence to safety standards, including the ability to wear a half/full face respirator. The role involves both physical and organizational duties in a dynamic shipyard setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
