Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment but may be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions for extended periods of time and occasional exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, infectious diseases and unfavorable fumes, vapors and odors. Exercises no supervision. This position is a "grant funded" position, therefore unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason. The San Antonio Metro Health District (SAMHD) provides public health services to clients, which may include risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. Work Location City Chest Clinic, 2303 SE Military Dr., Bldg. 528 (78223) Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions + Makes and takes referrals from different agencies and the general public. + Makes presentations to community groups explaining assistance program and may participate in health fairs, meetings and community board activities; performs patient toxicity assessments; and provides Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) to patients in the clinic or in the field. + Coordinates and conducts special events. + Actively participates in case reviews and provides feedback to clinic supervisor and nurse case managers on requested clients; enters field visits into clinic surveillance database and completes and submits reports. + Answers phones and provides information about programs and performs brief intakes to include counseling TB patients on the importance of taking their anti-tuberculosis medication. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). + Three (3) years of experience with a social service agency or promoting a health program. + Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License. + Any applicant selected for this position must have a background check completed with results satisfactory to the City of San Antonio and successfully complete the City of San Antonio’s Cash-Handling Certification Training. Preferred Qualifications + Bilingual in English and Spanish. + Community health experience. + Home Health experience. + Medical records and documentation experience. + Strong communication skills. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. + Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of City, State, Federal, and private programs. + Knowledge of basic mathematics skills. + Knowledge of available resources for referrals to clients. + Knowledge of basic interviewing skills. + Knowledge of counseling skills. + Skill in utilizing office equipment, a personal computer and associated software programs. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to record information accurately. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public. + Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
