Caster Shift Mechanic, BRS
U. S. Steel is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace culture and celebrate the diversity of our employees. This is an industrial maintenance position responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of Equipment and daily mechanical operations in the Caster of Big River Steel.

Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements are followed and a priorityEnsure good housekeeping practices are carried out in job areas and groundsInspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctionsTroubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair complex mechanical equipmentInstall and/or modify mechanical equipment following proper codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, andother specificationsAssist operational personnel as needed for operational tasks that are needed to successfully supportproductionEnsure proficiency by using precision measuring devices (feeler gages, dial indicators, calipers…)Work collectively with contractorsAssist maintenance teams in need, in other departments across the mill, when circumstances ariseWork directly with all electrical and operations personnel in a fast paced environment to help develop asafety focused and productive teamSupport maintenance teammates to help maintain a positive and efficient work environment focused on safety and reliabilityQualifications:Ability to use mechanical ingenuity and make decisions in a fast paced production environment in a safeand efficient mannerAdaptability to accept changes in job duties and eagerness to learn and apply new knowledgeReliable team player with good communication skillsHighly motivated, self-directed, and willing to put in extra hours when neededDemonstrated proficiency using precision measuring instrumentsWorking knowledge of industrial hydraulics and power transmission systemsExperience in reading mechanical blueprints, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic schematicsAbility to weld (stick, mig and tig -preferred), use cutting torches and the use of overhead cranes is a plusKnowledgeable and efficient in the use of the proper rigging equipment, includes critical lifts.Experienced with mobile equipment (Rough Terrain, Man Lift, Fork Lift, Carry Deck or Broaderson)Basic computer skills required; use of Microsoft Office is a plusEfficient in the Metric Measuring System is a plusHigh School diploma or equivalentTechnical certificate in Steel or Industrial Technology or closely related field is a plusMinimum 2 years of work experience as an industrial mechanicNeeds to be a Grade 8 minimumWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. This job can be physically demanding work in a production environment. Typical work days are Monday through Friday. This position can require long hours, weekend and holiday coverage to support routine responsibilities, and being on call.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
