Gain hands-on patient care experience and build your clinical skills as a Casual Patient Care Technician—the perfect opportunity for nursing students looking to grow in a supportive healthcare environment! Prior PCT or EMT experience is strongly preferred. We’re seeking a commitment of at least one shift per week, with opportunities for additional hours over school breaks. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Perform core nursing assistant tasks, including vital signs, blood glucose checks, I&O, and specimen collection. + Conduct advanced skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, Foley catheter removal, and point-of-care testing. + Communicate effectively with healthcare teams and provide patient status updates. + Maintain a safe and respectful environment, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and safety protocols. + Support patient mobility, transport, meal assistance, and comfort measures. + Document patient care accurately and complete clerical tasks as required. + Educate patients and families on care instructions per RN direction. + Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department projects. + Continuously seek professional development through feedback, training, and self-review + High School Diploma or Equivalent. + Enrollment in a Nursing Program with: + 1 year of healthcare experience, OR + 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, OR + Completion of at least 1 clinical rotation in a nursing program. + Prior PCT / EMT experience strongly preferred + Strong communication skills. + Medication access limited to distribution to the nurse. Certifications & Clearances: + CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire. + ACLS preferred. + Act 31 Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire/transfer. + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal + Act 33 with renewal + Act 34 with renewal + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
