Casual Faculty Position

Job Summary

This position is a Casual Faculty role, to allow a retired faculty member to utilize remaining external research funds while continuing research on open projects, specifically planning and designing the ankle Exoskin.  There is potential to utilize another research funding source during this position.  This role will also supervise current PhD students working on the same research project.

Essential Functions

Participate in planning and designing the ankle Exoskin Participate in preparing reports, providing presentations to sponsors and preparing publications. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Specifically three Ph.D. students finishing their PhD program, including Jordan Stolle, Luigi Piarulli, and Mehrangiz Taheri Present work at conferences including current research presentations at ORS 2025, ISB 2025 and other Orthopedic and Biomechanics Conferences Help PIs with writing proposals including preparing research proposals on topics such as: Swelling co-polymeric materials with Dr. Najafi, Exoskeletal systems for medical application with Dr. Genevieve Dion. Involvement in outreach and educational activities of the lab Report research results and data in group meetings: Please see specific conferences and professional meetings above. Also, prepare manuscripts for publication in Scientific Journal such as Journal of Biomechanics and Journal of Orthopedic Surgery.

Required Qualifications

PhD or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related field 10 years’ relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Exoskeletal systems for medical application and swelling co-polymetric materials

Physical Requirements

Typically sitting at a desk/table

Additional Information

This is a part-time casual position classified as non-exempt.  The pay offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
