Catastrophe Model Developer - Flood
This role is part of Aon Impact Forecasting team, a team of scientists, developers and client services colleagues together developing and supporting catastrophe models for various perils including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire or terrorism.
We are looking for a technically oriented candidate for development of catastrophe model for (re)insurance industry. The position is suitable for juniors who want to grow professionally, as well as for experienced experts in hydrology, statistics or data science interested in flood modelling.
What the day will look like
+ Analyze data relevant for flood loss modelling: climate data, stream-flow data, digital elevation models, building data, claims data.
+ Write scripts in Python to manipulate large datasets.
+ Adapt, implement, and test methods to simulate realistic flood events. Task includes literature review and coding.
+ Implement flood models – convert modelling outputs to internal formats of our ELEMENTS loss modelling platform.
+ Cooperate with other colleagues, GIS experts, AI analyst, statisticians, and programmers to contribute to complex flood model development.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
+ University degree with a focus on hydrology, statistics, or data science.
+ Experience in hydrology or flood modelling.
+ Scripting/automating tasks in Python (alternatively in R).
+ Technical attitude, ability to quickly learn new things and concepts.
+ Experience with spatial data is a plus.
+ Knowledge of GIS systems is a plus (ArcGIS, QGIS).
+ Knowledge of SQL is a plus.
+ Experience in processing large datasets (gigabytes – terabytes) is welcomed.
+ Proficient communication skills in English.
