Catastrophe Risk Analyst – Accident and Health/Workers Compensation

The Chubb Catastrophe Management Team supports the underwriting functions of Chubb Europe, Chubb Global Markets, and Chubb Overseas General. The London team provides the link between the underwriters and our outsourcing partner in India where we employ 45 catastrophe analysts. The Indian analysts are responsible for the majority of account pricing and also play a meaningful role in the carrying out of quarterly roll-ups. The London team peer-reviews the output of the Indian team to maintain quality in account pricing, and manages the Monthly roll-up process.

The Catastrophe Risk Analyst will report directly into the Regional Catastrophe Risk Manager. 

Key Responsibilities: 

The Analyst will build and maintain strong working relationships with underwriters, the Corporate Catastrophe Management Unit, the outsourcing partner, and modelling agencies. The key focus for the Catastrophe Risk Analyst will be the portfolio analysis and management of both the Global Accident & Health (A&H) and the International Workers Compensation (WC) books of business. These are two important lines of business for Chubb, with both contributing significantly to the group GWP and have an underwriting presence around the world. Undertake catastrophe analytics, reporting and portfolio management of both the North American and International A&H books of business. Take on the monthly roll up reporting for the A&H and WC lines of business. Produce extensive exposure reports for senior management. Maintain a high standard of data capture and system reconciliation. Work alongside one offshore analyst, providing training, mentorship and peer review. Work with internal system developers to improve current, and develop new, systems for risk capture and data analytics.  Work with other Catastrophe Management teams across the organisation to bring synergy to the management of A&H and WC, including Corporate Catastrophe Management and the North American WC team. Carry out data quality analytics and work with underwriters to improve the completeness, resolution and appropriateness of key data inputs. Develop a detailed understanding of the catastrophe vendor models used at Chubb, their appropriateness of use and modelling sensitivities when being applied to the A&H/WC book of business. Provide statistics and analytics to help manage the current treaty reinsurance structure and help with reinsurance placements. Testing internal and external model upgrades and communicate model changes. Keep up-to-date with developments in catastrophe management and the insurance market. Provide ad-hoc data, statistics and information to help with the pricing of unique products, facilities and covers. Utilising deterministic and probabilistic models to provide key reporting metrics which support underwriting and reinsurance decision making.

Experience

Prior catastrophe modelling experience and experience of RMS or alternative vendor models is desirable.Prior experience working with one or more of the following lines of business; A&H, Workers Compensation, Casualty and Terrorism; would be advantageous.Previous experience working with query or programming languages such as SQL, VBA, Python or R would be valuable.

Skills and qualifications

Degree, or equivalent experience, educated.Good understanding of insurance and reinsurance concepts and products.Ability to prioritise tasks and be flexible during busy periods.Very strong maths capabilities and the desire to work heavily with numbers.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.Good written and oral communication skills; ability to explain technical issues in non-technical terms.Attention to detail and ability to connect with people at all levels.Professional qualifications or progress towards professional qualifications advantageous.Relevant study will be supported.Advanced data manipulation and analytical IT capabilities.
