SUMMARY

The Category Buyer is responsible for managing assigned categories. Category Buyer continuously buys and creates plans to drive sales and gross profits in assigned categories. Category Buyer also handles vendor service issues from the stores.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for ad item selection in assigned categories and the negotiating of costs for these items.Responsible for monitoring competitive activity in assigned categoriesContract negotiations with Director of Non-Perishable Buying and Merchandising involvement in assigned categoriesCategory Management in assigned categoriesResponsible for sales and profits in assigned categoriesResponsible for monitoring sales trends and changes within assigned categoriesBuyer has to have a clear understanding and working knowledge of assigned categories and expectations of assigned categoriesWorking knowledge of pricing within assigned categories so that this Buyer is able to maintain expected gross profits in assigned categoriesInvolved in planning and implementing marketing plans for assigned categoriesResponsible for vendor service issuesProcure deals for ROP’s, Mailers, and Special Events in assigned categoryResponsible for keeping accurate buying recordsResponsible for setting up promotional planning calendar as well as merchandising ideas for the supermarket stores.Responsible for monitoring accounts receivables that pertain to assigned categories.Attends buying shows and travels

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Associates of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with Supermarket math concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, distribution, discounts and percentages


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages along with basic supermarket math


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The Associate is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
