Position Summary:
Category management uses a strategic approach to group procurement or payment functions based on similar characteristics or themes. Oversight of this group at UPL includes the Accounts Payable (AP) team, administration of the university’s PCard program, and expanding upon supplier risk assessment within UPL Procurement.
The Category Management Supervisor will provide direct supervision of the AP, PCard, and Supplier Risk teams.
This role is responsible for the development and maintenance of efficient systems with a focus on compliance, fiscal responsibility, and customer service, as well as proposing and monitoring department budget and expenses. This role coordinates workflows, sets priorities, and seeks and implements process improvements with a data-centric mindset. It is the expectation that the Category Management Supervisor will provide recommendations on additional areas that could roll under this umbrella to improve operational efficiencies.
Position Duties:
+ Hires, trains, develops, mentors, and evaluates staff; sets department priorities in alignment with university and unit mission, vision, and values
+ Supervises AP, PCard, and Supplier Risk teams of auditors, and contract specialist who supports buyers with reviews
+ Identifies, designs, implements, and monitors departmental performance metrics. Researches cause of unmet goals and addresses a solution
+ Supports positive relationships between UPL staff and campus stakeholders by sharing expertise, interpreting policies to answer questions, and recommending actions
+ Leads the UPL Payables functions to ensure accurate and timely payment of obligations in conformance with university policies and procedures, and federal, state and local laws and regulations
+ Updates Accounts Payable standard operating procedures for successful integration of SAP Ariba
+ Builds and grows vendor management into a full supplier risk assessment for UPL operations
+ Oversees the functionality of SAP Ariba’s Supplier Lifecycle and Performance module which supplements MSU’s vendor system of record (Kuali Financial System). Researches and learns ways to utilize available features to enhance the review of suppliers and vendor information and ensures the two systems are kept in sync
+ Determines best practices and develops or improves policies related to PCard issuance, violation rules, and tracking mechanisms
+ Manages PCard program administration, auditing, and compliance
+ Evaluates exemption requests against policies and approves modifications as appropriate
+ Designs, analyzes, and interprets complex PCard information to produce monthly and annual managerial reports and scorecards for operational decisions. Effectively communicates with relevant stakeholders to provide financial reporting as well as verifies year-end financial statements for accuracy
+ Prepares, directs, and manages assigned budget(s)
+ Provides input on additional areas of category management that will improve operational efficiencies
+ Develops business cases for projects and initiatives, executes implementation, and reports impact of project or initiative
+ With a continuous improvement approach, advances strategic initiatives, in alignment with university and unit strategic initiatives, to create efficiencies, standardize processes and strengthen stakeholder relations; designs, recommends, and implements changes
+ Acts as lead on improvement initiatives, as assigned

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a field related to the area of responsibility; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervising operational activities related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Experience with SAP Ariba
+ Experience with KFS
+ Ability to lead and communicate using a high level of emotional intelligence
