Category Manager

Primary Purpose

Will serve as a recognized Sourcing/Category subject matter expert (SME), overseeing direct and indirect spend within designated categories. With responsibility for spend oversight ranging from $135M to $265M, they will contribute to achieving team annual savings exceeding $12M. Leading sourcing negotiation strategies and collaborating cross-functionally to align stakeholders and business units, including IT, Operations, Transportation and Finance to achieve lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). Additionally, the role entails analyzing large datasets, developing strategic goals, managing supplier relationships, overseeing contract negotiations and facilitating legal agreements to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Contributes to team annual savings of $12M and higher and will develop, lead, guide and support through implementation (when applicable) with sourcing negotiation strategies that enable maximum benefit(s) for the enterprise and/or site(s).  Provides support to stakeholders which includes executive leadership and below. Leads sourcing events to procure the materials or services needed from the best vendors; will result in the lowest total cost of ownership (Total Cost of Ownership).  Works cross functionally researching business needs and developing proper action to ensure TCO.  Contract management vendor selection, approval management, supplier management, business reviews, stakeholder support and recommendations. Requests for quote (RFQ), requests for proposal (RFP) and requests for information (RFI) bids for category spend. Support in aligning suppliers with company initiatives and strategies while driving cost improvements.  Contract negotiations, management and compliance to ensure deliverables are managed and risk is mitigated.   Acts as the liaison between company legal counsel, supplier legal counsel and business partners to facilitate and negotiate the development of terms and conditions, contracts and agreements for the purchase of goods and/or services. Market research and analysis; leads to spend, contract and research for designated categories, assesses supplier capabilities and identifies new sources of supply. Conducts trials on new products or processes to ensure they meet the needs of the organization and provide increased value or decreased TCO.  Performs research and analysis of primary spend categories, market data, financial analytics and financial projections for potential sourcing events.  Will work cross functionally with other teams at Mountaire to align stakeholders and business units with strategies including IT, Plant Operations, Transportation, Live, Agri-Business and Finance, researching business needs and developing the right sourcing event or supplier action to achieve the best result.   Will analyze huge data sets, identify trends and market gaps from the data, implement strategic goals in line with the organization's goals, strategically source, create a category plan and oversee that specific category.  Will effectively communicate and negotiate with relevant stakeholders and identify and manage relationships with major suppliers (SRM). Provides daily, weekly and monthly analyses of business partners and senior leadership. Communicate with business partners on key objectives, improve projects at advanced customer service levels, improves product flows and minimizes supply. Aligns with other Mountaire teams, IT, Plant operations, Live/Agri-Business and Finance. Collaborates to gain a working knowledge of business needs.  Directs facilitation of meeting needs. Supplier relationship management. Works with the Legal team on contract revisions and approvals. Directs and enforces all safety policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field or a minimum of 4 years' relevant procurement and negotiation experience. 3 - 5 years' relevant work experience. Project management and contract knowledge/experience. Analytics and data management. SQL, Access, Excel, Oracle, SAP and/or other ERP software knowledge and experience. Responsibility for spend oversight ranging from $135M to $265M across multiple categories. Travel is required as part of the job to facilitate direct engagement and interaction with our suppliers, allowing for a deeper understanding of their operations, processes, and capabilities. Managing projects and trials at Company facilities. Attending relevant expos or shows is pertinent to this role to provide opportunities for professional development and industry insight.
