The Coal & Coke Technical Role will work to optimize cost-effective procurement and logistics of metallurgical coal and coke for our North American Operations, along with services associated with the role.   The role is responsible for supporting operations, customer delivery, and service requirements through ensuring materials, products, and services are received on time and under budget, through supporting all technical and quality aspects of the NA coal and coke programs.

This challenging opportunity encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including:

Contribute to profitability with commitment to cost savings initiatives plans through implementation of cost cutting measures to reduce spending. Review and follow up on coal shipment and coke quality data for trends using Statistical Process Control.Model coal blends for Clairton and USSK to ensure coke consistency, in spec compliance and protection of assets.Conduct inspections on coal producers for verification of quality, production, and shipment performance issues. Follow-up on corrective actions. Verification of proper sampling and testing in compliance to ASTM standards. Individual will be directly involved in quality problem and nonconformance resolution with coal suppliers, terminals and governing laboratories. Manage special projects and provide on-site coordination for quality verification and recommendation to ensure project success.Manage and coordinate collection and testing of coal evaluation testing programs including Chemical (CEV) and Monthly Evaluation (MEV) Programs.   Manage and review data reported in Cognos from testing programs.Review internal coal and coke data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance of reporting requirements.Manage QMS documents at Clairton Works specific to Raw Materials.  Directly involved with coal suppliers to improve quality assurance programs to meet ISO Standard and contractual requirements.Certified in daily barge scheduling program at Clairton to support operationsManage and conduct inspections at coal and coke laboratories to ensure ASTM, ISO or approved procedure compliance.  Ensure accuracy and precision in governing analyses.  Involvement in laboratory problem and nonconformance resolution at Clairton Works and commercial and supplier testing labs.Actively involved in sourcing of coals to achieve business plan goals for cost reduction and quality requirements. 

Requirements:

3+ Years experience within the metallurgical coal and/or coke industry.Travel could be extensive at times and with short notice to both mine sites and USS operating facilities.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience within coal and coke industry field required. Location – May be a remote position but will be required to travel to plant and vendor locations.$70,000K-$95,000K
This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
