About the Role

Babcock is seeking a dynamic Category Specialist to join our growing Defence team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Category Manager and key stakeholders to shape sourcing strategies that align with Babcock’s business objectives and ensure the highest standards of service, compliance, and value for money.
 

You will be responsible for leading sourcing activities within your category, managing end-to-end procurement processes, and driving supplier relationships to ensure optimal performance. Your insights into the supplier market will help develop effective strategies that support the organisation’s broader goals, with a particular focus on fostering partnerships with Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
 

This role will see you contributing to category improvement initiatives, performing risk assessments, and ensuring the competitive performance of supplier panels through the RFQ process. You will also negotiate supplier agreements, draft contract terms, and manage the execution of RFx events, working closely with the Purchasing Manager to enhance value and improve key procurement metrics.

To be successful, you will bring:
 

Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain). Graduate Certificate or Degree in a Business, Procurement, or Supply Chain related discipline. Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Membership level or studying towards. Previous experience in a similar role. Demonstrable commercial awareness. Able to demonstrate a passion for delivering commercially astute outcomes. Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and build effective business relationships with diverse groups of people. An understanding of category strategy development.
