The Communications and Community Relations Coordinator provides coordination and implementation of public relations, marketing, fundraising, and organizational resource development for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association in Steuben County. Work with media partners to design and produce a variety of publications and broadcast media messages appropriate to the public affairs goals and objectives of the association. Coordinate and/or implement individual giving solicitation programs; provide assistance in the management of capital giving donor prospects, when appropriate. Plan and implement major public affairs events, workshops, and functions. Represent the association to a variety of constituencies, including alumni, friends, clientele, corporations, and foundations. Position closing dates may change based on Association needs. Required Qualifications + Associate's Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related discipline or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus 1-year transferable program/functional experience may substitute for educational component. + Experience relevant to the role of the position. + Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. + Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. + Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g. video, audio, web, etc.). + Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance. Preferred Qualifications + Experience and interest in event and workshop planning. + Demonstrated marketing and design abilities for effective branding and communications. + Demonstrated experience in organizational fundraising and resource development. + Creative and innovative approaches to marketing a community based not-for-profit organization’s image and programs. + Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal and formal marketing and public relations efforts addressing diverse audiences. Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Administrative Responsibilities: Direction – 5 % + Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communications, marketing, and branding efforts of the Association’s programs and events, including social media, brochures, website, signage, advertisements, Association publications, and press releases. + Establish a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events. + Assist in planning mass media efforts and utilize effective marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging. + Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication and marketing efforts for the Association and its programs. + Make recommendations to Executive Director for strengthening and improving the marketing plans. + Provide input and make recommendations for strengthening and improving Annual Giving and donations. + May provide input into communications budgeting and feasibility of program communication goals. + Under the direction of the Supervisor, manage and plan website ad hoc pages to meet organizational goals and communication strategies. Management – 25 % + Provide substantial moderately complex administrative tasks to guide the implementation of communications strategies, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies and Federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.). + May provide moderately complex administrative management support to the Association. + Monitor website usage to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts. Coordination/Operation – 65 %Communications & Marketing + Coordinate, design and write for traditional media efforts related to Association programs and events, including brochures, signage, advertisements, annual reports, and press releases. + Coordinate, design and write for new media & social marketing efforts related to Association programs and events, including e-newsletters, social media and website posts and updates. + Draft standard and non-standard communications for the purposes of promoting program objectives and marketing the Association, with approval from Executive Director. + Maintain database of and network with media and marketing contacts to be informed of CCE programs and events. + Coordinate and maintain regular communications calendar and plans for traditional, print, and social media communications, inclusive of all Association programs and events. + Maintain a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events. + Under guidance of Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications, including attending events and meetings with community organizations to represent CCE. + In coordination with staff, respond to general requests for information about CCE programs, activities, and grants in the community. Coordinate workshops accordingly. + Create media opportunities and direct press inquiries and opportunities to appropriate staff. Volunteers + Coordinate, schedule and support the training and work of volunteers for implementing education events related to established program priorities. + Coordinate administrative volunteer management efforts including background checks, position descriptions, reporting, and recognition. Events + Coordinate and execute tasks for Association-wide events, including Annual Dinner, 4-H Showcase, Farm Trail Day, and Volunteer Recognition Reception. + Support the Association Events Committee in planning and coordination of events, including Annual Dinner, 4-H Showcase, Farm Trail Day, and Volunteer Recognition Reception. Fundraising + Coordinate fundraising campaigns for annual enrollment period, 4-H Showcase, and other causes as needed. Board Relations + Assist with necessary preparations and arrangements for board, committee, and annual meetings. Coordinate the nomination and orientation of new board and committee members. Professional Improvement – 5% + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
