CCE of Wayne County 4H Summer Assistant – Newark, NY
On a temporary basis and as part of a team, the person in this position will assist 4-H staff with 4-H summer programming including summer camp(s), 4-H involvement in the Wayne County Fair, workshops, program year wrap-up, and other tasks, as needed. Required Qualifications + High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months volunteer or work experience working with youth participants of all ages. + Must be dependable, flexible, and organized. + Must be a team player and work with a variety of CCE educators. + Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. + Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. + Ability to frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. + Ability to frequently carry supplies and equipment, including by climbing stairs and/or in natural environment settings with or without reasonable accommodation. + Commitment to working with diverse audiences and Wayne County community. Preferred Qualifications + Some college experience preferred. Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Program Responsibilities: Program Delivery – 75 % + Assist 4-H Staff in carrying out educational programs and activities including camp, fair, workshops, gardening/horticulture, and animal science. + Immediately report emergency situations to 4-H Team Leader. + Assist 4-H Staff with delivering programs. + Assist with activities related to the Wayne County Fair, including cleaning, and preparing the 4-H building for exhibits, recordkeeping at animal shows, interacting with the general public, supporting volunteers, fair data input, and helping with judging day. + Assist 4-H Staff with various 4-H program events. + Be a positive role model to youth participants, campers, camp counselors, Fair Teen Leaders, and Fair Teen Assistants. + Frequently travel, transporting self and materials to deliver programs utilizing established approved curriculum at locations based on program need. Administrative Responsibilities – 20% + Assist in the preparation of materials for programs (may include copying, organizing, or otherwise readying the supplies and handouts needed). + Inventory available materials and let supervisor know when supplies need to be purchased. + Design posters, signage, and registration forms, as needed. Professional Improvement – 5% + In cooperation with the Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned. Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions. + Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment. + Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard. + Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified. Policy – Applied to all duties and functions + Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner. + Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, and procedures. + Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner. + At all times act in a professional Customer Service manner including but not limited to business-like demeanor, tactful communications, cooperative, helpful, positive, and receptive manner. Position Details This is a TEMPORARY part time (30h/week) non-exempt position. Compensation paid at the rate of $17.00 per hour.
