CDI - Coding Education Specialist
ELIGIBLE FOR CMH EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS: NON PRIORITY RECRUITMENT The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Coding Education Specialist will work with providers and other clinical staff to improve the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation in the medical record to ensure accuracy. This position ensures that all information gathered and recorded in a patient’s chart is accurate and detailed. The CDI Specialist will analyze each line to be sure the appropriate medical code has been assigned to each service performed while ensuring timely collection of date to complete the record for timely billing. Additional Key Responsibilities: • Reviewing medical record documentation for completeness and accuracy. • A review of diagnostic findings and what documentation might be missing. • Having experience in both clinical and medical coding backgrounds. • Building a strong knowledge of clinical staff to ensure patient qualifies for medical services. • Will document timeliness of complete patient records and accuracies to educate and train Providers and other clinical staff as needed. • Ensures that documentation supports accurate coding by Medical Coders, helping to bridge the gap between clinical language and coding requirements. Job Requirements • Must demonstrate knowledge of clinical processes, charge master maintenance, clinical coding (CPT, ICD-10), revenue code, modifiers, charging processes, audits, and billing experience. • Proficient with Cerner Works, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Pivot Tables. • Excellent interpersonal skills when working with coding staff, CDI physician champions and other clinical staff • Proficiency in a medical record review • Must have excellent presentation skills and analytical skills License/Certification CDI Certification is required upon hire CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) - certification must be obtained within one year of hire. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or Business Administration, or a related field preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a CDI role Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds). May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment.
