Description
As a key member of the Funeral Services Division, Cemetery Manager II coordinates the maintenance of cemetery grounds and works congruently with the Maintenance Division. This role entails managing funeral service operations and delivering exemplary customer service to grieving families, funeral homes, and the broader community.
The position demands high attention to detail to effectively manage various administrative tasks. In addition to these administrative responsibilities, the Cemetery Manager II conducts grounds inspections, locates and marks graves, coordinates vault installations, and fulfills other duties in all weather conditions.

Essential Functions
Essential functions:
+ Oversees the operations of funeral services by managing property sales, locating, marking graves, and coordinating grave openings and closings in collaboration with funeral directors, vault companies, and grounds maintenance staff. Additionally, this position involves supervising vault installations, coordinating foundation excavations, inspecting completed installations, and working with monument companies to ensure proper placement.
+ Engages with grieving families to deliver compassionate support throughout the burial process.
+ Executes administrative responsibilities, including maintaining ledgers and journals, managing lot records, tracking customer inquiries, preparing detailed activity reports, reconciling records, monitoring sales, verifying ownership and burial rights, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
+ Facilitates the maintenance of cemetery grounds by coordinating maintenance activities, conducting inspections of the grounds, supervising the work of external agencies and contractors, and ensuring compliance with established standards, rules, laws, and regulations.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Two years experience in Cemetery Operation, Records Management, or Customer Service
Additional Information & Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
+ First Aid/CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment
Work Location: Various cemeteries throughout City of Norfolk
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7 :30 am - 4:00 pm
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
