Central Processing Technician/Surgical Technician **Grant Regional Health Center** 1 Positions ID: 61559 Posted On 02/10/2025 **Job Overview** **TITLE:** Central Processing Technician/Surgical Technician **DEPARTMENT:** Surgery **POSITION STATUS/HOURS:** Full-time (40 hours/week). 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Call rotation hours in addition to 40 hours/week (evenings, weekends and holidays). Response time is 30 minutes. **Benefit eligible position!** **JOB SUMMARY:** The Sterile Processing Technician performs cleaning, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, storage and delivery of sterile instruments and trays. The Sterile Processing Technician will support all patient care services and is responsible for knowing all of the instruments used in the operating room, clinic, and hospital departments. The Sterile Processing Technician will also perform appropriate documentation for the sterile processing processes. The Surgical Technician assists the surgeon as a scrub person and assists the RN in performing circulating duties. The surgical technician displays understanding of anatomy and physiology along with the pathological process that is affecting the patient. The surgical technician displays an understanding of the surgery and prepares for any variations that may occur. The surgical technician cares for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Possess good communication skills and attention to detail. **RESPONSIBILITIES:** • Directly responsible for maintaining aseptic integrity throughout surgery including but not limited to organizing sterile field, opening sterile supplies, scrubbing, donning sterile gloves and gown and maintaining correct surgical counts per hospital policy. • Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by passing instrumentation, equipment, and supplies accurately and quickly • Assists RN with circulating duties as directed • Prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens appropriately • Assists with cleaning and restocking the operating room before and after surgery. Making necessary preparations for subsequent procedures. • Prepares medications under the direct supervisor of circulating RN • Participates in “time out” procedure according to hospital policy • Utilizes personal protective equipment • Maintains accurate documentation of sterilization and cleaning logs according to guidelines • Orders surgical supplies as needed • Demonstrates communication and leadership skills and Utilizes communication tools provided • Takes responsibility for self-development • Demonstrates strong, accurate decision-making capabilities • Performs instrument decontamination, processing, & sterilization according to manufacturer’s instructions for use. • Accurately assembles instrument sets/pans to ensure they are complete. • Keeps track of loaner instruments/implant trials and reprocess them before and after the case they are intended for. • Maintains knowledge of current instructions for use (IFU) for proper care and use of instruments. • Communicates throughout the facility to ensure all departments have the instruments needed to perform their job duties. • Assists with checklists throughout the department • Performs decontamination and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes per manufacturer’s IFU. • Performs other job-related duties as requested to facilitate departmental operations **QUALIFICATIONS:** • Graduate of an accredited Operating Room/Surgical Technician program or other certification(s) within the OR setting. • Certification as registered central service technician (CRCST) or willingness to obtain within 2 years of employment is required **HOW TO APPLY:** Internal applicants: Apply in the ADP Career Center by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 15, 2025.
