  As a Valleywise Health Central Sterile Tech, you will be vital to the patient care process. Central Sterile is the heartbeat of the hospital. This role focuses heavily on the ins and outs of infection prevention and materials management in relation to medical instrumentation and equipment. As a department, we are guided in an innovative direction that focuses on best practice standards and a positive culture that meets the missions, vision, and values of Valleywise Health.
  As a Central Sterile Tech, you will grow your competence in a wide range of services, including Ortho, Neuro, Burn, Flexible Scopes, etc. This position primarily focuses on five areas on a rotational basis: Prep and Pack, Decontamination, Sterilization, Storage, and Flexible Scopes.

Hourly Pay Rate: $20.52 - $30.27   Qualifications
Education: Requires a high school diploma/GED, a national certification through HSPA or CBSPD, or the completion of an accredited Central Sterile Processing program. Graduate of a Central Sterile Technician program is preferred. Experience: Must have at least one (1) of the following: A minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible Central Sterile experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have graduated from a Central Sterile Technician program. Must have completed a training program by Valleywise Health’s Central Sterile department and have certification as a Central Sterile Technician. Certification/Licensure: The Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician/CBSPD certification exam is required to be taken within 12 months of employment in the position. Understanding that the results may take anywhere from 90 to 120 days to receive.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have a working knowledge of steam sterilizers, washer decontaminators, cart washers, and patient care equipment.

Must have general knowledge of basic and specialty surgical instruments, implants, patient related supplies, materials and equipment, aseptic and sterilization techniques.

Must have mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate and reassemble, problem solve incomplete trays and missing instrumentation, and have effective organizational, communication and human relations skills.

Requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to work with professionals, and maintain confidentiality standards.

Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
