Central Sterile Technician
Job Summary: The Certified Central Sterile Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies. This position ensures compliance with industry standards and hospital protocols to maintain patient safety and support clinical staff. Key Responsibilities: + Decontamination and Cleaning: + Operate cleaning equipment such as ultrasonic washers, washer-disinfectors. + Decontaminate surgical instruments, endoscopes, medical devices, and equipment using established protocols. + Inspection and Assembly: + Inspect instruments and endoscopes for cleanliness, proper functioning, and damage. + Assemble instrument sets and trays according to specifications. + Ensure proper packaging and labeling for sterilization. + Sterilization: + Operate sterilizers, including steam, and low-temperature sterilization systems. + Monitor sterilization processes, ensuring all cycles meet required parameters. + Perform biological and chemical tests to validate sterilization effectiveness. + Storage and Distribution: + Maintain sterile storage areas to ensure proper inventory levels and orderliness. + Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to appropriate departments in a timely manner. + Track and document instrument usage and returns using inventory management systems. + Placing supply orders for Surgical Services + Compliance and Safety: + Adhere to all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best practices for infection control and sterile processing. + Participate in quality assurance activities, including routine audits and process improvements. + Ensure accurate documentation of sterilization and maintenance records. Qualifications: + Education: High school diploma or GED required. + + Certification as a Central Sterile Technician required. + Ongoing compliance with certification requirements, including continuing education. + Experience: + 1–2 years of experience in sterile processing preferred. + Familiarity with surgical instruments, medical devices, and sterilization equipment is a plus. + Skills and Competencies: + Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. + Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. + Knowledge of sterile processing techniques and infection control protocols. + Proficiency in using inventory and sterilization tracking systems.
