Central Supply Aide

Asa the Central Supply Aide, you will be asked to disassemble, clean, assemble, sterilize, and store procedure trays, instruments, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and aseptic techniques under direct supervision. Completes requests to dispense equipment and supplies and assists in maintaining department inventory. Participate in the department’s performance improvement activities.
Job Specific Competencies
Sterilizes instruments, equipment, and linen using appropriate autoclaves. Loads in the prescribed manner and set controls to a specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized. Completes appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization. Reads and initials autoclave graph to verify the appropriate sterilization cycle and provide required records for inspection. Assembles all instrument procedure trays and kits according to the prescribed manner using content lists as a guide. Wraps packages and handles all items following procedure. Marks items with identifying data and distributes or stores in a designated area. Notifies supervisor when unable to replace parts or when equipment is deficient in the work area. Dispenses products are requested for sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies. Assigns priority to emergency requests and issues required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of the procedure intended. Assembles and wraps materials, instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique. In the operating room setting, you will perform daily testing of autoclaves. Records and maintains all sterilizing records. Sterile Processing Aide will perform daily maintenance on the Riley Flask Packs. Sterile Processing Aide will assist the O.R. in the process of “immediate use sterilizing”. Assist the O.R. staff with preparing surgical instruments to be returned to Sterile Processing for reprocessing. Return the cart to SPD and bring sterile instruments to the O.R. and place them in the appropriate storage area. Other duties as assigned by Manager SPD. Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment. Assists in orientation of new employees to each work assignment area and overall department operation. Performs other related duties as required, such as examining sterilization/expiration dates; reporting inoperable equipment; making visual inventory inspections to maintain adequate stock and supply levels; testing the effectiveness of autoclave function by assembling and placing culture spore tests following procedure; store new and reprocessed equipment and supplies; cleans shelves and work areas. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent Obtain CRCST status within 24 months of hire.
