Primary Responsibilities
The Department of Art & Art History seeks a practicing artist to teach beginning and upper-level undergraduate courses in ceramics/drawing. This is an Instructor of Practice position, non-tenurable. This 9-month position will begin August 2025 subject to final budgetary approval.
We are looking for an artist who will bring a critical and creative approach to teaching ceramics in a liberal arts setting. We seek an artist who will take advantage of our unique facilities to teach both functional and sculptural ceramics courses as well as potentially traditional and experimental courses in other sculptural processes and/or environmental art. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach from culturally diverse perspectives and can connect art to diverse communities. In addition, this person will be expected to teach one foundational beginning drawing course each semester. The hired candidate will teach a 3/3 load.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the person in this position will be responsible for:
+ Health and safety protocols for 3-d studio classrooms. This includes the ceramics facilities, a small woodshop, an outdoor welding studio, kiln room, and clay mixing room
+ Firing of all kilns (3 electric, 1 gas)
+ Establishing studio work and safety protocols for students in all 3-D areas
+ General maintenance and repair of ceramics equipment including kilns, pug mill, throwing wheels, and miscellaneous studio furniture
+ Ordering supplies within a fixed departmental budget
+ Organizing studios and supplies

Minimum Qualifications
MFA in Ceramics
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience at the university level
Salary $55,500 - $62,500 annually. The starting rate will be determined by experience, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
