About Us: Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College's fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland's most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Ceramics Studio Monitor plays a vital role in maintaining a productive and safe environment for students working in the ceramics studio at Cecil College. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the full-time art faculty to oversee the operation of the studio during open studio hours. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Monitor open studio to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for all students. Address any safety concerns and enforce studio policies. * Assist in the upkeep of ceramics equipment such as pottery wheels and hand tools. Report any malfunctions or needed repairs to faculty. * Help organize and maintain supplies, clay, glazes, and tools. Report any needed supplies to faculty for ordering as necessary. * Provide guidance and support to students working in the studio. Offer advice on techniques, materials, and processes as needed. * Ensure that the studio is clean, organized, and ready for use. Perform regular cleaning of work areas, tools, and equipment. * Serve as a point of contact for students, relaying information from faculty about studio policies, schedules, and upcoming events. * Complete the Ceramics Studio Safety Training Checklist and ongoing SafeColleges trainings. OTHER RELATED DUTIES: * Support various Art and Design events * Perform specific tasks as assigned by supervisor REQUIREMENTS: Education: College student or graduate with training in ceramics Experience: Previous experience working in a ceramics studio is preferred. Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic understanding of ceramics processes and equipment. Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive studio environment. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 pounds. The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and sitting. Work Environment: Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
