Looking for a new career?  Consider applying for our Earn and Learn Certified Clinical Medical Assistant at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital!  The 36 hours per week paid position consists of 12 hours per week of class/clinical experience with the remaining 24 hours per week spent working as a non-certified medical assistant in a medical practice. If you are accepted in the program, you will be a full-time employee while earning your Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Certification! 

Requirements:

18 years of age or older high school graduate or equivalent from a state-sanctioned programMaine residentPass the CASAS (math & reading) assessment post offer and prior to startingAbility to work 36 hours per week (24 hrs/wk as Medical Assistant (Non-certified) and 12 hr/wk class).Commit to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital for two years following the transition to full-time, 40 hour per week Certified Clinical Medical Assistant position.Access to a laptop or tablet to bring to classInternal employees must be in good standing. Internal applicants will require a manager-to-manager reference if selected for interview

Other Information:

All training components - lecture, lab and externship will be done in-person at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital.Students will begin training in their working positions on one of the following dates:Tuesday, February 18, 2025, or Monday, March 3, 2025Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training will begin the week of March 10, 2025 - June 27, 2025


Job Summary Working Position: 

The non-certified medical assistant provides direct and in-direct patient care under clinical direction of the provider they are working with and the office leadership within a medical office setting. Performs duties such as routine intake of patients which includes taking vital signs and assuring patients understand their plan of care and instructions.

Responsibilities: 

Clinical

Properly collect and understand the required vital signs, screening questions.Properly gather a history and reason for visit.Ensure a complete medication reconciliation is completed and ready for the provider to complete at each visit.

Administrative Assisting

Document all aspects of patient care in a timely manner on both paper medical records and the electronic medical record.

Communication & Customer Service

Communicates and interacts with patients and families, providers, peers and other health care members to maximize successful outcomes and maximize function of the unit.

Medical Law & Ethics

Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.

Patient Care Coordination & Education

Facilitate patient compliance (e.g. continuity of care, follow up, medication compliance) to optimize health outcomes.

Other

May perform other duties upon request and with proper training and competency documented.

Other Information: 

Medical Assistants (Non-Certified) will be given the opportunity to complete a Northern Light Health Medical Assistant Program or Self-Study option and once certified moved into a Certified Medical Assistant I.This job description may be reviewed and modified as needed.
