Certified Elementary Teacher - Immersion
Overview The Cherokee Immersion School is unique in that all classes are taught using only Cherokee language, syllabary for written communication, and Cherokee language in verbal communications. Teachers will supervise students, setup classroom labs, develop curriculum and lesson plans as well as provide a safe, clean, orderly, and healthy learning environment. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Education; no substitutions. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT No additional. COMPUTER SKILLS An individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess a valid Oklahoma State Department of Education Teacher Certificate in Elementary Education and/or Cherokee. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be fluent in Cherokee (reading, writing, and speaking) – Masters-level using Syllabary. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Familiar with Microsoft Office programs. The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
