Certified Lead Pharmacy Technician

Are you an experienced and certified pharmacy technician ready to take on a leadership role? We are seeking a motivated and skilled Lead Inpatient Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our hospital pharmacy team. In this critical role, you will oversee and guide our team of pharmacy technicians, ensuring that our patients receive accurate, timely, and safe medication therapy.

As the Lead Pharmacy Technician, you will not only perform essential inpatient pharmacy duties but also coordinate daily operations, mentor junior technicians, and work closely with pharmacists and medical staff to enhance workflow and patient care. Your expertise and leadership will be vital in maintaining the highest standards of service and operational excellence.

Work Hours:

Full-Time, 80 hours bi-weekly Shift varies Weekends and holiday rotations

Sign-on Bonus:  $5,000 (External qualified candidates only and one-year work commitment required)

Minimum Job Requirements:

High School Degree or GED Active National Pharm Tech Cert (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician Ability to compound sterile products and maintain a sterile environment Exceptional interpersonal skills Up to 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician II with potential for chemotherapy training upon promotion  

Job Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, assist in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital (inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room). This includes selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications to the units. Prepare sterile compounds, including chemotherapy and hazardous substances. Act as a resource and subject matter expert to other Pharmacy Technicians, intervening in challenging situations and working to resolve escalated issues. Maintain competency and broaden skills by working in multiple areas of the pharmacy. Proficient in unit dose dispensing duties, operating equipment, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding duties. Manage inventory control through stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications/supplies, and packaging/assembling medications for future dispensing. Use pharmacy technology, follow department standards of work, policies, and workflows. Lead the team of Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring efficient and quality pharmacy services are provided to patients. Consult with and update supervisors regarding any team issues, task difficulties, and complex problems. Provide input in hiring, promotion, and performance evaluation of Inpatient Pharmacy Technicians. Train, orient, and mentor new staff members.

Must be minimally a Pharmacy Technician II and become chemo-trained to be eligible for the Lead Pharmacy Technician position Required to train in compounding sterile hazardous medications and be available to compound hazardous medications as needed Will be working with hazardous and toxic substances
