Location: Asheville PediatricsPosition: Certified Medical Assistant
Team: Clinical Reports To: Clinical Manager and Practice Manager Goals: Enhance Patient Care by assisting Providers to interview, diagnose and treat patients. Perform “tasks” integral to excellent patient care, giving the Provider the opportunity to focus on “medical decision making.”
Duties and Responsibilities:1. Patient Care a. Preparing for the patient’s visits by obtaining records pertinent to the visit, i.e., immunization records, specialist visits, newborn records, ED visits, etc. b. Initiate the patient’s visit by introducing oneself, showing the patient to an exam room and measuring pertinent vital signs. c. Interview patients to obtain details of the history of present illness and establish the patient’s reason for the visit. d. Prepare and administer medications and immunizations as directed by a physician and as consented to by the parent/guardian. e. Collect blood or other laboratory specimens to perform diagnostic tests. Specimens may be given to the lab tech or performed yourself. This also includes performing hearing and vision screenings. f. Provide patient education when necessary. For example, instruct parents/guardians how to administer medications or give directions for pursuing outside diagnostic testing.
2. Documentation in the Patient Medical Record: a. Ensure all pertinent information or outside records have been included in the patient’s chart prior to their arrival. This includes working with the triage and medical records team to obtain any necessary records. b. Record all information provided by the patient and/or parent/guardian during the visit. This includes but is not limited to who is accompanying the patient, vital signs, HPI, ROS, and reason for visit.
3. Diagnostics: a. Prepare and perform in-house diagnostic tests and instruct patients and/or parents/guardians on how to obtain diagnostic testing from outside facilities.
4. Other Duties: a. Clean exam rooms, stock exam rooms with supplies, other duties as assigned.Requirements:Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification or Degree as a CMA or LPN.
