POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties that assist in the delivery of effective patient care within assigned area. Greets patients, escorts them to exam room and perform vitals and other related CMA duties. Demonstrates knowledge of medical practice and patient care as it relates to the clinical setting and medical specialty. Adheres to policies and procedures and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety. Responsibilities Assist with patient care by escorting patients, obtaining brief medical history and vital signs, assisting with procedures and communicating with patients about their visit. Maintain patient’s medical record accurately: treat as a legal document, authenticate charts, signatures, initials, and titles. Check for proper year, name, date of birth, allergy stickers, and updated immunizations. Seek training as required in order to complete lab requisitions and referral forms and for proper billing codes. Schedules phedule outside procedures for patients including blood work and radiologic exams, when requested. Assist in admitting patients to the hospital including obtaining prior authorization from insurance companies and notifying hospital of admission. Keep exam rooms and common work areas clean, stocked, and well organized including keeping medications in stock. May maintain drug sample closet and discard expired medications as directed by supervisor. Place soiled gowns in laundry at the end of each scheduled shift. Responds effectively to incoming patient calls and communicates pertinent information to physician or designee to provide for continuity and optimal care. Administers limited injections requested by a physician and supervised by a physician, registered nurse or physician assistant in accordance to established regulations. Assist providers with coverage as needed and assist in other departments as required by supervisor. Qualifications Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Completion of a medical assistant program from an accredited institution One year of recent experience working in a medical facility preforming Certified Medical Assistant duties or equivalent; OR, recent graduate from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program. Registered or nationally Certified Medical Assistant Must maintain BLS certification.
