Summary:

We are seeking dedicated Certified Registered Nurses (CNAs) to join our team and provide exceptional care at the Memphis, TN VA Medical Center throughout the Memphis, TN metropolitan area.

Principle Accountabilities:

Provide direct patient care, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding. Support patient mobility and ambulation needs, including transferring patients and ensuring safety during activities. Monitor and document patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature. Assist in medical procedures as directed by the nursing team and collect specimens as needed. Observe patients' physical and emotional well-being, promptly reporting any changes to the nursing staff. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in patient rooms and common areas.

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong understanding of basic patient care principles and techniques. Knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards. Proficiency in monitoring and documenting vital signs. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Compassionate, patient-focused attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality care.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a state-approved CNA training program.

Qualifications:

The provider shall possess the required qualification/elements to be privileged and/or credentialed in accordance with the VetPro, background checks, fingerprinting, badging, annual fit testing, and pre-employment and annual drug testing. The contractor’s credentials/qualifications are subject to review by VAMC Staff. These qualifications at a minimum will be based on Joint Commission (JC), or equivalent, quality standards for training, education, and competency. Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: Basic Life Support for health care providers through the American Heart Association®, CPR for the professional rescuer through the American Red Cross or the American Safety and Health Institute. Certification: Active certification as a Nursing Assistant in Tennessee. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a MUST HAVE. Experience: Must have prior experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in long-term care or a hospital. Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements

VAMCs are open 24/7/365. Community Based Outpatient Clinics are typically day shifts. Telehealth is 24/7/365. This position requires rotational on-call duties and may necessitate return to the facility to provide care. This position has availability to workday, evening and night shifts. Availability during weekends and holidays is a possibility. Advanced notice will be provided for scheduling purposes. We try our best to accommodate your schedule, so please inform Vighter of your desired schedule and/or geographic limitations in advance. Emergency requests for contractor staff may be made by the VA with four (4) hours’ notice. Such emergency requests will be at the rates and terms specified herein for standard requirements. Adjustments to schedules may be coordinated by the VA and the Nursing Assistant with eight (8) hours’ notice to provide for normal workload variations and personnel practices. Requests for services may be cancelled by telephone notice to the contractor’s main business office up to two (2) hours before the start of the tour of duty at no expense to the VA. Certified Nursing Assistants employees may be released early from a tour if workload permits. If this occurs, the VA will pay an amount equal to the greater of two (2) hours or the actual hours worked on that tour. Tours will be a minimum of eight (8) hours (i.e., 7:30am-4:00pm; 3:30pm-12am; 11:30pm-8:00am) local time and a maximum of 12 hours (i.e., 7 am- 7 pm or 7pm – 7 am) local time. No double tours or sequential tours will be permitted.

Work Environment

The Memphis VA Medical Center provides a fast-paced and dynamic work environment dedicated to serving veterans. CNAs work closely with nursing and medical staff to deliver patient-centered care. The role may involve standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.

Travel:

As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Generally, travel is limited to commute from residence to the worksite. Commute is non-compensatory. All official travel is government-funded.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day. Must be willing to work overtime if necessary. Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry up to 10 feet. Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders. Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear. Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment. Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation. Must undergo urine drug screening (UDS). Most positions require a Tuberculosis skin test and an up-to-date immunization record.
