Per Diem Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, COTA

Pay Rate - $30.00/Hour


Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant assists in the overall assessment and treatment of residents and carries out treatment plans as set forth by the Occupational Therapist and approved by the Physician.

   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists the occupational therapist in performing tests, evaluations and complex treatment procedures.Provides input to occupational therapist regarding resident treatment plans.Documents resident’s progress as needed. Documents and maintains service-related records as directed by occupational therapist.Carry out occupational therapy resident care programs as planned as directed by the occupational therapist.Follows established procedures and observes safety precautions.Carry out treatment program, and train residents in activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, dressing, hygiene, feeding and homemaking). Carry out exercise program, and train residents in exercise.Observes and reports to the occupational therapist resident’s performance and response. Records this information in resident’s chart.Carry out responsibilities appropriate to the occupational therapy services, i.e. clerical, maintenance of supplies, equipment and maintenance of a safe, orderly environment.Reports problems with resident treatments or equipment to the occupational therapist.Participates in orienting, teaching and guiding the rehabilitation assistant. Participates in monitoring and evaluating the performance of the rehabilitation assistant and assists with any counseling or disciplinary action.Instructs residents, families and nursing staff regarding resident participation in the occupational therapy program.Involves the resident and family in treatment and discharge planning.Participates in staff education programs and complies with require facility in-services. Provides training as requested by nursing administration.Participates in team conferences and family meetings.Maintains minimum daily productivity of 80% patient treatment, of available time in facility.Assists with coordinating occupational therapist’s daily visits, including scheduling appointments and organizing the flow of information.Updates skills and knowledge related to geriatric occupational therapy issues/techniques. 


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Completion of an accredited 2 year OTA education program with a passing grade on the written exam. Current NYS OTA license required.Minimum of 1 year clinical experience, preferably in gerontology.Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all disciplines and consultants.Knowledge of New York State Regulatory Standards and Practices.Good supervisory skills. Basic computer skills required, including the ability to work within a Windows operating system, the ability to open and/or create email messages, the ability to locate, and the ability to open or credit electronic documents.Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public. This position may/will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional sitting, walking and standing. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
