**Certified Orthotist or Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist** **Position information** **Title** : **Certified Orthotist or Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist** **Facility** : Fidelity Health Care **Job Reports to** : Manager, DME Bracing and Orthotics **Premier Health Mission, Vision, and Values** **Position Summary** **General Summary/Responsibilities:** The Orthotist collaborates with providers in the evaluation and analysis or patient’s needs for orthotic services. He/she is responsible for formulating the design of orthotic devices including materials, both custom and prefabricated. He/she must evaluate the patient’s needs, perform the fitting, make modifications as needed, and adjust to ensure proper fit. He/she must maintain good documentation of services provided, and may be asked to participate in provider training. **Qualifications** **Education** **Minimum Level of Education Required:** Master's degree **Additional requirements:** § **Type of degree** : Masters Degree § **Area of study or major** : Orthotics and Prosthetics § **Preferred educational qualifications** : Must be a Certified Orthotist or Certified Prosthestist/Orthotist § **Position specific testing requiremen** t: N/A **Licensure/Certification/Registration** § American Board for Certification Certified Orthotist (CO) or Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist (CPO) § Licensure per State of Ohio Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Board **Experience** **Minimum Level of Experience Required:** 1 - 3 years of job-related experience **Prior job title or occupational experience:** N/A **Prior specific functional responsibilities:** N/A **Preferred** **experience:** Enter preferred experience or N/A **Other** **experience requirements:** N/A **Knowledge/Skills** § Collaborate with physicians in the evaluation and analysis of a patient's need for prosthetic and/or orthotic services; recommend treatment options to physicians when necessary § Examine and evaluate patient needs in relation to disease and functional loss. § Formulate design of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices. Select materials, make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts, taking into account new techniques and materials. § Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments. § Evaluate prosthetic and/or orthotic device on patient, adjust to assure fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work § Instruct patient in use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices. Identify and reconcile issues/problems to ensure patient satisfaction with devices provided. § Provide follow-up with patients and physicians § Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals. § Utilize effective materials management, quality and performance processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy, maintaining a proper balance with costs and operational/financial performance. § Meet with physicians, case managers and other referral sources to review prosthetic and/or orthotic services and capabilities; develop and enhance business relationships to identify and secure ongoing and future sources or referrals. § Provide detailed clinical notes to patient records. § May mentor residents or newly certified clinicians § Provide assistance to other clinical staff § Provide information to administrative staff to conduct reimbursement activities. § Adhere to all safety regulations; compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations; compliance with bloodborne and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. § Review and sign documentation of certified orthotic fitter providing clinical supervision both direct and indirect. § Maintains appropriate certification and licensure requirements § Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
